PTFETech – Complete PTFE Extrusion Process Expertise

The PTFE extrusion process is a highly specialized and precise manufacturing operation, involving a series of critical steps, each with its own sub-processes and parameters. These sub-steps are carefully defined and recommended by resin manufacturers to ensure consistent performance, structural integrity, and maximum durability of the final PTFE product.

PTFETech works closely with customers to optimize every stage of the extrusion process—whether by upgrading an existing plant, refining operational parameters, or re-engineering an older setup for improved efficiency and product quality.

The main stages of the PTFE extrusion process include:

  1. Resin Storage & Handling
    • Proper storage of PTFE resin is critical to prevent contamination and moisture absorption.
    • PTFETech advises on storage conditions, humidity control, and handling methods to maintain resin quality from supplier to production line.
  2. Resin & Lubricant Mixing
    • PTFE fine powder is blended with a specific quantity of approved lubricants.
    • PTFETech provides mixing guidelines, equipment recommendations, and process monitoring methods to ensure a homogeneous blend and optimal extrusion properties.
  3. Preforming
    • The resin-lubricant mix is compacted into cylindrical billets under controlled pressure using a preforming press.
    • PTFETech’s preforming process design ensures uniform billet density, preventing defects during extrusion.
  4. Extrusion
    • The billet is loaded into a PTFETech-designed paste extruder, where hydraulic pressure forces the material through a precision-engineered die and mandrel.
    • Our extruder designs maintain dimensional accuracy, concentricity, and surface finish across liner sizes from 2” to 24”.
  5. Sintering
    • The extruded “green” PTFE liner is dried to remove lubricant, then sintered at carefully controlled temperatures.
    • PTFETech develops sintering cycle programs to achieve maximum strength, chemical resistance, and thermal stability.
  6. Quality Control
    • Every product undergoes dimensional checks, surface inspection, and mechanical property testing to ensure compliance with customer and industry specifications.
    • PTFETech integrates quality assurance protocols into the production workflow for consistent and repeatable results.

By covering every stage of the process—from resin handling to final inspectionPTFETech ensures that customers achieve high-yield, defect-free PTFE liners with optimized production efficiency and reduced downtime.
